Tire options 2010

We are finalizing plans for 2010, and would like to know what our racers are thinking.  Our question this week is whether to spec MG Yellow, Bridgestone YKC, or both?  If we change to Bridgestone only, should there be a grace period to use up MG’s in the first part of the season?

Email us before Jan. 24 to share your choice and reasons.  I’ve outlined below how we got here, and what I believe a good option for 2010 is.

Regardless of choice, Shifter and Kid Kart will remain open tire.  Also, Spec Racer will remain on the MG IR compound.

Last year, racers asked us to allow Bridgestone tires in addition to the MG’s that we had spec’d.  The thought was that since many of the surrounding tracks and series run Bridgestone, racers already have these in the trailer.  The cost savings would be good for both regular racers here and visitors.

We made the change and are glad we did.  It was the right choice.

We saw was that the MG Yellow was some faster than the Bridgestone YKC.  The meant that although the YKC was allowed, it wasn’t going to win much.  This makes using regional race takeoff tires for Points Racing less valuable, and also means that what you learn on MG’s here doesn’t transfer to regional level racing well.

I believe we should use Bridgestone YKC as spec tire for every class except Kid Kart, Shifter, and Spec Racer.  Email me your thoughts regardless of your choice.  This is your chance to be heard before the choice is made!

If we go YKC only, should there be MG’s allowed for the first two weeks?
My gut feeling is no, as that would allow a stickier tire to be used at an advantage, but if racers have lots of MG’s, I don’t want to cause more trouble than we fix.  Let me know what you think.
