Clone class

There has been a lot of behind the scenes discussion this winter about a clone class, and we are ready to announce that we will host one this season.  The advantages of the clone class are the possibility of very low startup costs and the ability to run at other tracks across the nation.  I will be finalizing the rule wording during the coming days, but wanted to share the concept that we will be using now.  The existence of the clone class will not change the hosting or intent of the Spec Racer class.

In order to allow our racers to travel, I have taken into consideration the clone rules at New Castle Motorsports Park, 61 Kartway, and Mid States Kart Club.  A good rule package for this class would allow our racers to compete at these tracks, and other racers to compete with us.  Good rules would also allow a racer with a very low budget to get started.

To that end, we will be using WKA rules section 710 through 710.20 with a few exceptions. These are meant to be used as a guide as rule wording is finalized during the coming days.

  • We will allow exhaust will allow headers larger than .750 diameter, and unaltered B91 series mufflers from RLV.
  • Like WKA, we will allow open tires on 5” diameter wheels, however  6” diameter wheels will not be legal.
  • $200 Claim on any motor by a racer that competes in the race, or the track.
  • Tech violation penalties for both clone and Spec Racer will be:
-- Loss of season point to date for 1st violation
-- Expulsion from Clone and Spec Racer classes for second violation.

I am concerned that the vague rules in some areas will lead to some racers not abiding by the stock intent of the class.  It is my hope that the $200 claim and stout tech violation penalties will be enough to deter racers who would use ‘creative interpretation’ to win a plastic trophy.  Rules are subject to change as the class matures nationwide, though all rules will be published on the jetkarting.com website for at least 14 days before being used on race day.
