Spec Racer Rookie
Spec Racer Rookie karts are on their way! Let me explain a little...
We have had a tremendous success with the Spec Racer class because it delivers very even racing that doesn't overwhelm budgets, mechanical ability, or drivers. And it does it for under two thousand dollars.
One of my regrets has been that there was no similar class for drivers 7-12 years old. The only option for these drivers is Yamaha with it's higher initial cost and more involved maintenance. They are capable karts, no doubt, but quite daunting for many families getting started.
The karts are cadet sized versions of the Spec Racer, with the same sealed engine. The shorter chassis length will make it much easier to fit younger drivers, and the same sealed clone engine keeps the cost down.
Karts should be arriving at the end of the week, and then we will be testing intake restrictors and exhausts to achieve a proper performance; not slow to be boring, but not so fast as to be unsafe. We'll post pics as the karts arrive.
If you are interested in this class, send me an email. I'm hoping this can help many families step off the sidelines and get onto the racetrack!

I think it's a great idea
I think it's a great idea because I feel you loose 3/4 of the kids who would like to try karting but are overwhelmed by the Yamaha's, along with their parents. And with the rule of being able to use Cadets in Yamaha Rookies, that would give parents time to save up for a Yamaha motor when their child is ready to move up in a season or 2 and not have to buy a second chassis (I think that's the rule with Rookie, correct me if I'm wrong???) After watching some of the kids in the kid kart class, I see a couple that would fit perfectly in that kind of class, if not 3-4 others by the end of this season.

Karts are here! We just unloaded the semi.
We'll have more information for you through the day.
Incidentally, that means the Spec Racer engines are here too. Let me get a couple sealed for anyone that was wanting one this week.
Brilliant!
Fantastic idea. Listening to families/groups/individuals out in the pits the biggest "problem" is cost - from tires, to motors, to other consumables. The spec formula has proven itself a winner - and look at the guys/gals who have tried it and moved into other classes in just a bit over 1 year's time. The cheaper formula gets new people in (which the sport needs as a whole), and from that pool you'll be able to, hopefully, grow more dedicated racers going forward. Great idea!
THis is an excellant idea.
THis is an excellant idea. Let me know when the karts are in. I hopefully will be looking for 2 of those for next year and selling the kid karts due to the kids age. Even though I haven't had the time this year for the kids to race the kids enjoy coming down and running on the track so a kids junior spec class would be perfect.
